Learning Floor Expectations

Learning Floor Expectations

Available Learning Floor spaces include: Science/Math, English/Social, Religion, Braided Journeys, ELL, Student Services A Learning Floor is an educational space that is considered an extension of a seminar.  Each Learning Floor has a subject area teacher available to assist students one-on-one.  It is important that students are engaging in coursework during these times. Students are expected to follow the policies outlined below: ID & Agenda Books: Students must have their IDs visible and Agenda Books needs to be filled out with the plan for the day. The Student Agenda needs to clearly outline coursework that is being worked on and the Learning Floor the student will be working on. (ex. Math LG 2, Math Floor).  It is strongly recommended that students work in subject specific Learning Floors based on the coursework that is being completed.   Help Desk: Students should access the help desk regularly for support, answering questions, and to receive feedback on course work. When going to the help desk, students should have their ID ready to be scanned by the teacher. Students should have all materials necessary during their meeting (Learning Guides, Response Guides, etc.).    Quiet floor: All learning floors are quiet work areas. Respect others who need quiet to focus and please refrain from noisy or disruptive behavior. Workspace: At no time should desks or chairs be moved from their original locations unless permission as been given: Individual work: Only one student may work at each desk. Group work: By request only and must be quiet. If students are working on a group project they must do so on the subject specific learning floor. Work must be on task- if students become disruptive, they will be asked to work individually. Any furniture moved must be returned to its original location. No movement time: Students are to stay on the selected Learning Floor for the entire block. Once a student has indicated the floor they will be working on, they cannot move. If one needs to leave the floor during the block (example - write tests, appointments, etc.) it should be planned in the Student Agenda and authorized by a TA.  Computers: Chromebooks are available for sign out in the library and are to be used for school work only.  Students must provide the clerk with their ID in exchange for a computer. A computer can only be signed out for one block. If you need it longer, you will need to check into the library. Students may also use their own Personal Electronic Devices. Use of these devices is for schoolwork only. Cell phones: Cellphones are to be used for school work only. Students using cellphones for use other than learning will be asked to put away their cellphone. Cellphones are not to be used to take photos or recordings of individuals in the learning space or during class time. Food: Students may consume water and small snacks but avoid loud packaging or foods that can leave a mess and be distracting to others on the learning floor. Students will ensure that they remove all garbage when they leave. Clean up: Areas need to be cleared of materials and garbage once a student leaves the learning floor area. If a student is leaving the floor they must remove all items from the work area. Personal items can not be left behind in an effort to “save a spot”. Students who do not adhere to the policy may be asked to leave the Learning Floor and/or be directed to the Administration.
